Home Star Proposal
President Obama's administration has proposed a new piece of legislation called the Home Star program. The purpose is to encourage energy efficiency home improvements with tax credits for qualifying projects, such as installing a roof that can cut down your cooling costs by reflecting the sun.
Home Star is a government proposal that will put contractors to work and help homeowners save on their energy bills. For Home Star to work it must put construction workers to work in a timely fashion, and create good paying jobs for American People. Home Star will have two types of consumer incentives.
- Silver Star - a program that provides specific energy saving investments for homeowners. They can receive $1000 to $1500 on an energy improvement to their home. Also. $250 for each appliance they purchase, not to exceed $3000.
- Gold Star - provides an incentive for homeowners to conduct an energy audit and then implement energy products that will give greater energy savings to their home.
The Performance Institute (BPI), the Residential Energy Services Network (RESNET) or an approved equivalent conducts an energy audit before the work begins on the home. Consumers receive incentives from $1500 to $3000 according to the energy efficient changes that are done.
One type of home improvement proposed to qualify for the Home Star program is the installation of a highly reflective roof, specifically having a Total Solar Reflectivity, or TSR, of 25% or more, such as our Old World Charm Steel Shingle System. The reflective metal roof looks great and can save on your cooling bills by keeping the heat out in summer. Additionally, unlike some metal roofs, our Steel Shingle System can be walked on safely in most circumstances, and it's easy for our teams to install, even on top of your existing paper roof, which keeps from filling the landfills further -- Another Environment Bonus!
President Obama's Economic Recovery Advisory Board, which includes venture capitalist and green-tech investor John Doerr, has endorsed the plan as it meets economic and environmental goals. There's also the potential to create demand for green building products. Home Star is not yet a law, to support the coalition visit http://www.homestarcoalition.org/join.html.
HOME STAR will rapidly create jobs in both construction and manufacturing, while saving families money on their energy bill.
